Florida, Alabama and Georgia Heat Advisory: Heat Index Could Reach 111°F Today

A Heat Advisory is in effect Thursday across the entire tri-state region covering the Florida Panhandle, southeastern Alabama and southwestern Georgia as dangerous heat continues to grip the area.

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee forecasts afternoon temperatures between 92°F and 99°F, while high humidity could push heat-index values to between 105°F and 111°F.

Affected communities include Tallahassee, Panama City, Apalachicola, Perry, Marianna and DeFuniak Springs in Florida; Dothan, Enterprise and Geneva in Alabama; and Albany, Valdosta, Thomasville, Tifton, Bainbridge and surrounding areas in Georgia.

Conditions may become even hotter Friday and over the weekend. Forecast data indicate that some locations could experience heat-index readings above 113°F, with near-record temperatures possible. Hazardous heat may persist into next week.

Residents should drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and remain in air-conditioned or shaded locations whenever possible. Children, older adults and pets should be checked frequently and never left inside parked vehicles.

Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon, but widespread relief from the heat is not expected.
