Severe storms may trigger Thunderstorm Watch across southern Arizona, SPC says

PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued Mesoscale Discussion #1833, warning that scattered severe thunderstorms are expected across southern Arizona, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch being considered.

Forecasters say the strongest storms could produce:

  • Damaging wind gusts of 65–80 mph
  • Hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter

The area of concern includes much of southern Arizona, including portions of the Phoenix and Tucson regions.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions as severe storms develop this afternoon and evening.
