Man With Firearm Arrested at U.S. Capitol North Barricade, Capitol Police Say

A man carrying a firearm was arrested Monday at the North Barricade of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., according to a statement from the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP).

Authorities said firearms are prohibited on Capitol Grounds, and officers took the individual into custody during the incident. No injuries have been reported, and officials have not released the identity of the suspect or additional details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

Following the arrest, the North Barricade was closed while Capitol Police conducted their investigation.

In a statement, USCP said:

“The U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man at the North Barricade of the U.S. Capitol Building who had a firearm. Firearms are prohibited on Capitol Grounds. The North Barricade will be closed while the USCP investigates. Staff and other personnel are directed to AVOID THIS AREA until further notice.”

Authorities have not indicated whether the incident posed an immediate threat to lawmakers or Capitol staff. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected as it becomes available.
