Bridgeport Senior Evacuation: 51 Residents Relocated After Power Outage at Elanor Apartments

Bridgeport Senior Evacuation

Bridgeport, CT – Fifty-one senior residents were evacuated from the Elanor Apartments on Park Avenue Wednesday following a power outage caused by a water leak, according to Bridgeport city officials.

The six-story building, operated by the nonprofit New Neighborhoods Inc., experienced the outage on Tuesday. In response, an out-of-service GBT bus transported residents to the Marriott Hotel in Trumbull, where they will remain until power is restored.

“I am so glad we’re going to be in a hotel tonight so I can get some sleep in peace in a place with electricity,” said Willa Johnson, a resident of the complex.

A spokesperson for New Neighborhoods Inc., Jerome Floyd, emphasized the organization’s rapid response:
“We wanted to do what was best for the residents, and now we’re just trying to make sure the residents are comfortable, make sure they’re taken care of, getting their medications – all of those kinds of things are being addressed.”

City officials are working closely with the nonprofit to resolve the issue and ensure the well-being of all affected seniors.
