Shooting in Mystic Iowa: One Dead, One Injured, Suspect in Custody

A tragic shooting occurred late Tuesday night in rural Mystic, Iowa, leaving one person dead and another injured, according to the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reports of multiple injuries at an address on 470th Street. Upon arrival, they found Randy Walker, 62, and Destry Walker, 36, both wounded. Destry Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, while Randy Walker was airlifted to a hospital near Des Moines for treatment.

Shortly after, deputies were alerted to a motorcycle crash nearby. Robert Barrell, 51, was discovered hiding in the weeds near the crash site and identified as the suspect in the shooting. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder.

The investigation is ongoing.
