Man Dies After Shooting in Downtown Portland; Suspect Arrested

A man has died from a gunshot wound after being shot in Downtown Portland on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near SW 10th Avenue and Yamhill Street, with police quickly responding to the scene after receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from a serious gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, police used witness statements and camera footage to identify a suspect. A brief foot chase ensued, and the suspect was apprehended a few blocks east, near SW 4th Avenue and Yamhill Street. Authorities confirmed the suspect’s arrest but have not yet released their name or the charges they face. The suspect will be identified once they are booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
The shooting took place outside the Central Library, according to a spokesperson from the library. Roads around the SW 10th Avenue and Yamhill Street area remain closed due to the ongoing investigation, and TriMet services in the area have also been affected.
“The area around SW 10th and Yamhill downtown is closed due to a shooting. Drivers, other road users, and pedestrians should find alternate routes. The suspect has been apprehended, and there is no public safety threat,” said the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) in a social media post.

This marks the 18th homicide in Portland in 2025, a significant increase from the 35 homicides in the city at the same time in 2024.
The case remains under investigation
