CCSU President Zulma Toro Safe After Suspicious Envelope Incident

Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) President Zulma Toro is safe and in good health following an incident involving a suspicious envelope delivered to her residence.
In a message to the university community, President Toro shared that she received an envelope without a return address on Friday. Upon opening it, an unknown substance was released. The incident occurred at her home in Burlington, Connecticut.
Connecticut State Police responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m., along with teams from UConn Hazmat, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), and local fire services. An on-site assessment determined that no medical treatment was necessary for President Toro.
The Connecticut State Police have launched an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, CCSU officials are working in coordination with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure the president’s safety and further evaluate the situation.
President Toro expressed her gratitude to those who offered support and assistance during the incident:
“In the meantime, what I would like to say is thank you to the public safety personnel and staff at Central who supported me. Thank you to the first responders who handled a frightening situation with professionalism and care. Thank you to all the members of the Central family, CSCU team, Board of Regents and the community who have reached out by phone and email to send messages of encouragement. While I can’t control everything that comes my way, I can control how I respond to them.”
