Former NYC police commissioner Bernard Kerik dead at 69

Bernard Kerik, the former New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner who led the force during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, passed away on Thursday at the age of 69.

Kerik had been hospitalized in the cardiac unit earlier this month. The exact cause of his death has not been officially disclosed.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed Kerik’s passing in a statement on social media, writing:

“Today, we mourn the loss of Bernard B. Kerik — a warrior, a patriot, and one of the most courageous public servants this country has ever known. Bernie passed away tragically on May 29, 2025, after a private battle with illness.”
