Hurricane Milton forecast to reach 155mph, 2mph shy of cat 5
HURRICANE MILTON — As Hurricane Milton intensifies into a 120 mph major hurricane, fears continue to mount across Florida. Overnight satellite images reveal a rapidly strengthening storm, with a clear eye forming and the potential to reach Category 4, or even Category 5, before slightly weakening ahead of landfall.
If Milton hits the Tampa Bay area directly, it could be the most powerful storm to strike the region since 1921, threatening catastrophic damage.
The FEMA failure of Hurricane Helene in Florida as well as in North & South Carolina lingers over the state as Milton approaches. FEMA’s response to Helene was widely criticized for delays, mismanagement, and the rejection of grassroots volunteer efforts to assist storm victims. Reports surfaced of aid being blocked due to bureaucratic red tape, leaving many in desperate need without timely help.
With Milton now expected to strike the highly populated Tampa and Orlando areas, bringing life-threatening storm surges, devastating winds, and heavy flooding, there are growing concerns about FEMA’s readiness. The agency has struggled to regain public trust after the failures seen during Helene, and residents fear they may once again be left vulnerable.
Evacuation orders are in place, and Floridians are preparing for what could be one of the strongest storms in decades, but doubts about FEMA’s effectiveness loom over the preparations.
