The 89-year-old William Inglis ferry was in the process of docking at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal at Queens Quay W. and Bay St. when it suffered an unspecified mechanical breakdown, forcing crews to perform an emergency stop.

“The ferry — which experienced a mechanical issue — has since been removed from service, and a thorough investigation into what occurred will start immediately,” city spokesperson Russell Baker said in a statement.

“Service to all three Islands will continue.”
