British skier, 27, killed by avalanche after being buried under snow for hours

A British woman has died during an avalanche in Argentina, authorities have confirmed.

Andrea Marshall had been skiing with friends in the Andes near the Patagonian city of Bariloche when she was buried under snow and rocks. Her body was found around 11pm local time on Wednesday after a search and rescue operation lasting several hours which continued into Thursday morning.

The 27-year-old is from Scotland but it’s understood she was based in the Aran Valley in the Spanish Pyrenees at the time. Unconfirmed local reports said Andrea was teaching temporarily at a large ski centre in the city at the time.
