VIDEO: 2 people hospitalized after helicopter crashes into roof of Double Tree Hotel by Hilton in Cairns, Australia

Around 400 people have been evacuated from a Cairns hotel after a helicopter crashed into its roof and erupted into flames.

The crash happened just before 2am at the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton, with police declaring an exclusion zone around the scene that remains in place this morning.

Two people have been taken to hospital in stable condition, while guests were evacuated to a nearby hotel.

Two of the helicopter’s propellers landed on the nearby Cairns Esplanade and in the hotel pool, with witnesses describing the crash as sounding like a “bomb”. Video:
