Massive Ipswich fire sees ‘thick smoke plume’ billowing into sky

A raging fire has broken out in Ipswitch this morning, with smoke seen billowing into the sky after it ignited in a scrap metal yard.

Crews from both the Suffolk and Essex fire services have rushed to the scene, with pictures showing black smoke obscuring blue skies above the facility near Sackers in Great Blakenham.

Locals have been told to close their doors and windows and shut themselves inside as the fumes emanate from the site.

The fire is suspected to have ignited in a recycling bin, but Greater Anglia said in a post on social media that it may involve gas cylinders.
