update: Acid attack in Clapham and cyclist’s death in Shoreditch prompt police appeals

London police are actively seeking the public’s help after a suspected acid attack injured nine in Clapham and a separate hit-and-run incident resulted in the death of a cyclist in Shoreditch.

A woman and her two children were among nine individuals injured in a suspected acid attack on Lessar Avenue in Clapham, South London. The chemical incident, which occurred during a traffic altercation when a man reportedly assaulted occupants of a car and threw a corrosive substance, led to three passersby who attempted to provide aid also sustaining injuries.

Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service, treated the victims at the scene, with five being sent to a major trauma centre for further care. The London Fire Brigade also offered immediate medical attention. A total of three officers experienced minor injuries while responding to the incident.

Police have initiated a widespread manhunt for the suspect and circulated a call to the public for assistance in the case. Detective Superintendent Alexander Castle has requested anyone with information to contact the authorities. The investigation is active with ongoing efforts to determine the nature of the substance involved.

In a separate incident in Shoreditch, East London, police are searching for a cyclist linked to the death of a fellow cyclist, a 40-year-old man, following a collision with a Tesla after initially crashing into a minicab. The Tesla driver, a 44-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and a picture of the sought cyclist has been released.

The accident took place on Great Eastern Street and the police are calling for witnesses or any dashcam footage that may contribute to the investigation. Detective Constable Phil Stokes has encouraged the public to assist in identifying the man in the image or the individual himself to get in touch with the Met Police on 101 or through their contact points.

Both incidents have heightened the community’s concern for public safety and highlighted the importance of community cooperation with police investigations.
