Lockdown lifted at UT Southern, Pulaski schools after reports of active shooter unfounded

A lockdown has been lifted after reports of an active shooter near UT Southern Wednesday afternoon were unfounded, the Giles County Sheriff Office confirms.

According to the City of Pulaski, UT Southern learn of a threat around 3 p.m. and immediately went into a shelter in place order.

As a precaution, in addition to UT Southern, the courthouse and several schools inside the Pulaski city limits were also placed on lockdown around 3 p.m.

The lockdown schools included: Pulaski Elementary, Giles County High School, Bridgeforth Middle School and Southside Elementary.

Giles County Sheriff Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Pulaski Police Department were involved in the response. Authorities later issued an all clear.

Sheriff Kyle Helton told FOX 17 News they believe the threat came from outside the area, possibly outside the state.

The sheriff says the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security are investigating where the threat originated.
