A man has been shot in the face inside flat in a “targeted attack” and airlifted to hospital.
Emergency services were called to an address Old Swan, Liverpool, just before 4.30pm after reports a man had entered a flat and shot another man inside.
The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital via air ambulance with a serious gunshot injury to his face. Police said there were no further reports of injuries and armed police remain in the area while an investigation is ongoing to find anyone responsible.
Merseyside Constabulary are appealing for information to help trace the assailant, reports Liverpool Echo tonight. Its reporter is at the scene, which pictures show is heavily patrolled by officers this evening.

Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald, of Merseyside Police, said: “The investigation into this shooting is still in the early stages but we believe it was a targeted attack. We are continuing to carry out CCTV and house-to-house enquiries to establish exactly what happened.
“We understand the fear that gun crime causes and I’d like to assure residents living in the area that the use of firearms will not be tolerated on the streets of Merseyside. We are committed to tackling gun crime and will pursue those who are prepared to use firearms to endanger the lives of people in our community.
“In the 12 months to September 2023, we saw a 50% reduction in firearms offences compared the previous year. We are committed to taking weapons off our streets to prevent further shootings and, rest assured, if you tell us where guns are stored and being used we will take action.
“I would appeal to anyone who was on Haslingden Close and saw the incident or anything or anyone suspicious to come forward and let us know. Similarly, if you have doorbell or dashcam footage and live in the area then please review it and tell us if you see anything. Information you hold could be vital to our investigation.
