Another train derails in Odisha’s Bargarh; ‘not at all connected with Indian Railways’

ays after the Balasore train tragedy which shook the entire world, another train has reportedly derailed in Odisha. The incident has been reported from Bargarh district.

According to sources, as many as five wagons of the goods train loaded with limestone derailed near Mendhapali area in the district.

The accident took place when the train, maintained by a private cement company, was on its way to the manufacturing factory from Dunguri limestone mines, sources informed, adding that, fortunately no casualty was reported in the mishap.

The train is owned by the cement company and the route is only used to transport limestone to the manufacturing unit, sources added.

On being informed about the incident, the senior officials of the cement company and police rushed to the spot and started an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the Railway department has come up with a clarification that it has no role to play in the matter as the infrastructure is maintained by the private cement company.

“This is completely a narrow gauge siding of a private cement company. All the infrastructure including rolling stock, like engine, wagons, train track (narrow gauge) are being maintained by the company, only. There is no role of Railways in this matter,” the Railways clarified.

“There is a private narrow gauge rail line between Dungri limestine mines and cement plant of ACC Bargarh. A derailment has happened in early morning today on that railway line. The line, wagons, loco all are private. It is in no way connected with Indian Railway system,” the railway confirmed.
