"State leaders threatened public safety funding, applied pressure, and aimed to push Austin toward more cooperation with ICE than the law requires," Watson wrote. "Austin Police should be focused on Austin's public safety," Watson wrote.

The mayor said he expects a better working relationship with state officials when new leadership takes office in January.
