College-bound students seeking high-paying careers may want to review a study by the HEA Group, a higher education research firm that analyzed federal data. They were followed by computer science majors from Carnegie Mellon University at $268,121 and electrical, electronics and communications engineering majors from Carnegie Mellon at $250,168.

Topping the list were mathematics majors from Duke University, who earned a median annual salary of $297,029 four years after graduation.
