Independent experts to review Madison, Wisconsin Police use-of-force policies and training

Outside experts will soon review how Madison police officers use force on the job. Starting in January 2027, researchers will evaluate when and how officers use physical and deadly force, as well as the department’s de-escalation practices.

In response to community concerns, the Madison Police Department has requested an independent review of its use-of-force policies, standards, and training curriculum.
