Nicolas McCray Arrested in Sexual Battery Investigation in Sumter County, Florida

A Sumter County school employee has been arrested on sexual battery and burglary charges following an investigation into an attack on an 83-year-old woman and separate incidents at a retirement community, according to the sheriff’s office.

Nicolas McCray, 45, was being held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.

Deputies said security cameras recorded a suspect returning to the woman’s home three days after the reported October 22 attack, looking through windows and attempting to open her front door.

Investigators also linked McCray to three incidents at Carriage House Gracious Retirement Living in Wildwood in November and December 2025.

McCray works as a physical education paraprofessional at Wildwood Elementary School. Authorities said there was no indication he had improper contact with children.

The investigation remains active.
