Teenager Held Over Series of Suspected Arson Attacks in Haßloch, Germany

A 19-year-old man has been remanded in custody on suspicion of setting multiple fires in and around Haßloch, Germany, police and prosecutors announced Friday, October 30.

Investigators suspect him of involvement in two fires on July 3 and further blazes in the Haßloch area during the following weeks and months. He is also suspected of responsibility for three additional fires in Baden-Württemberg.

The suspect, who has no fixed address, was arrested after a court issued a detention warrant covering several suspected arson offences.

He appeared before a judge on October 27 and was subsequently taken to prison on remand.

Prosecutors in Frankenthal and criminal investigators in Neustadt are continuing to examine the circumstances and possible motive.
