Soccer Coach Remembered After Crash Kills Two in Monroe, North Carolina

A memorial now marks the scene of a crash that killed soccer coach Davor Barisic and Nemanja Ljepojević in Monroe, North Carolina, as fellow coaches rally around Barisic’s family.

The two men died early Sunday on Old Charlotte Highway near Rogers Road when their vehicle struck trees, according to Monroe police. The driver survived and remains hospitalized in critical condition. Police said speed and alcohol were factors.

Barisic, a father of two, helped coach his son’s team at Porter Ridge Soccer Club. Another coach has organized a fundraiser to support his family, WSOC reported.

Police said the driver could face charges.
