Fire Truck Crash Disrupts Traffic in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany

A fire-service ladder truck slid down an embankment while responding to an emergency in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, on Thursday, October 29. Both firefighters escaped injury, but recovery work was still disrupting traffic when the fire service issued its update.

The approximately 16-tonne vehicle left Braunsberg shortly after noon, just outside Herkenrath. It remained upright after sliding off the road.

Traffic from Herkenrath toward Kürten-Spitze was being diverted via Siefer Hof. The opposite direction remained closed during the recovery operation, with no estimate for when the work would finish.

Another ladder truck took over the original emergency call in Kürten without a critical delay. Investigators secured data from the crashed vehicle’s accident recorder to help establish the cause.
