Mein Schiff 3 Cruise Cancelled After Collision With Two Container Ships in Bremerhaven, Germany – Video

TUI Cruises has cancelled a Canary Islands voyage after Mein Schiff 3 collided with two container ships while leaving Bremerhaven, Germany, during stormy weather on Sunday, October 25.
The cruise ship was carrying 2,428 passengers and 922 crew members—3,350 people in total. Police said nobody was injured and none of the vessels took on water.
Wind Gust Pushes Cruise Ship Into Docked Vessels
According to police, a gust caught Mein Schiff 3 at around 5:30 p.m. while tugboats were assisting its departure, pushing it into two container ships moored at the Stromkaje.
The smaller container ship sustained minor damage. The cruise liner and the larger cargo vessel suffered substantial damage.
Lifeboats Damaged and Voyage Cancelled
The collision damaged the cruise ship’s lifeboats, their cranes and its outer hull. The larger container ship sustained a tear along its port side.
Mein Schiff 3 returned to the terminal. TUI Cruises said shipyard repairs were necessary and cancelled the planned voyage.
Investigation Underway
Water police are examining whether the cruise ship’s captain breached his duty of care. The investigation does not establish wrongdoing.
The cruise liner and the larger container ship remain prohibited from departing. The restriction on the less-damaged vessel has been lifted.
