Place de la Bastille Cleared Peacefully Ahead of Paris Protest in France

Place de la Bastille in Paris was cleared peacefully on Saturday, according to a Le Parisien journalist reporting from the square.

Bastille had originally been designated as the starting point for the demonstration before police authorities imposed a different route on Friday evening.

Organisers subsequently accepted the authorised march from Porte d’Italie to Porte de Vincennes, with departure scheduled for 2 p.m. local time.

Earlier, police used loudspeaker announcements in French and English to tell people gathered at Bastille to leave and head toward the authorised assembly point.
