A man identified in media reports as Kevin was arrested in Coignières after shootings in Trappes and La Verrière, in France’s Yvelines department, on Friday, October 23. One person was killed and at least four others were injured.

The gunman reportedly fired from a vehicle at several locations at around 10:30 a.m.

La Verrière Mayor Nicolas Dainville said a 12-year-old girl suffered eight bullet wounds and that her condition had been stabilised.

The mayor also said the attacker appeared to select victims based on their skin colour.

France’s National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office announced an investigation into murder and attempted murders linked to a terrorist undertaking, with an aggravating circumstance involving the victims’ actual or perceived race, ethnicity, nationality or religion.

The suspect was placed in police custody. The SDAT is coordinating the investigation alongside regional national police directorates and the DGSI domestic intelligence service.
