Sheriff: Swatting prompts Lowville Academy lockdown, early dismissal

Lewis County’s sheriff says he believes a swatting incident prompted a lockdown and an early dismissal at Lowville Academy & Central School Thursday. Swatting is when someone falsely reports an emergency, such as an active shooter situation, to prompt a heavy police response which can include a SWAT team.

Sheriff Mike Carpinelli reached out to 7 News, saying he wanted to calm the community.
