The guest was Alexandre Ramagem, a Brazilian congressman and spy chief under former President Jair Bolsonaro. De Mello claimed he had only just learned from the press that his guest was barred from leaving Brazil.

In September, Ramagem had fled Brazil days before being sentenced to 16 years in prison for his role in Bolsonaro’s plot to overturn the 2022 election.
