PHP Security Incident Prompts Reported Website Shutdowns Across Europe

Government websites and public services across Europe were reportedly taken offline during the October 21 PHP security incident. The Internet Archive and supporting systems used by Wikimedia were also among the services reported affected.
The Wikimedia reports concerned supporting systems, rather than all of Wikipedia.
In the Netherlands, the reported shutdowns included the National Cyber Security Centre website, the Port of Rotterdam website, the government portal Overheid and the Dutch football association KNVB’s website. Websites belonging to the country’s five largest political parties and several hospitals were also listed.
Other reported shutdowns involved French prefecture websites under the Interior Ministry, Belgian Foreign Ministry websites and Finnish government public web services.
Several German federal websites, a Czech government website and the UK Office for Budget Responsibility website were also reportedly taken offline.
In Denmark, the list included the national school communication platform and other Kombit services.
