Polk County reports more than 160 properties affected by September flooding

After one of Des Moines’ wettest Septembers on record, flooding reached Polk County homes outside of areas that typically see it. Dutch Geisinger said saturated ground from July and August compounded the effects of the rain.

Des Moines recorded 14.5 inches of rain in September, the city’s second-wettest September on record, and the third-wettest month on record.
