East Coast Storm to Bring High Winds, Coastal Flooding and Dangerous Surf

An East Coast storm is expected to form offshore within the next day or two, bringing high winds, coastal flooding and dangerous surf to portions of the U.S. Atlantic coast.

The strong non-tropical low-pressure system is forecast to move slowly and erratically through the middle of next week. Some subtropical development is possible during that time.

The formation outlook puts the chance of development at near zero over the next 48 hours and 20 percent over seven days. Both probabilities are classified as low.

Regardless of whether subtropical development occurs, the system is expected to produce hazardous coastal conditions. Residents and visitors should monitor statements and warnings from local National Weather Service offices and the Weather Prediction Center.
