US Tsunami Warning System: Waves up to 3 meters possible along parts of Panama coast

The U.S. Tsunami Warning System says tsunami waves reaching 1 to 3 meters above the normal tide level are possible along some coastal areas of Panama following the powerful earthquake.

Authorities are urging people in vulnerable coastal zones to stay away from beaches, ports and low-lying areas and to move to higher ground if instructed.

Strong currents and dangerous surges may also occur along the shoreline, creating risks even in areas where large waves are not immediately visible.

Residents should continue following official emergency alerts and local evacuation instructions as the tsunami threat is monitored.
