Jeffrey Archer, bestselling British author and former politician, dies aged 86

British novelist and former politician Jeffrey Archer has died at the age of 86, his publisher HarperCollins announced Monday.
Archer died suddenly and peacefully at his home between writing sessions, according to his publisher.
One of Britain’s most commercially successful authors, Archer sold around 300 million books worldwide during a writing career spanning five decades.
His best-known works include “Kane and Abel,” “Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less” and the Clifton Chronicles series.
Archer also had a long political career. He served as a Conservative MP, later became deputy chairman of the Conservative Party and was made a life peer in 1992.
His political career was marked by controversy, and he served a prison sentence for perjury in the early 2000s.
Archer remained active as a writer until his death and had met readers at a book event shortly before he died.
His final novel, “Adam and Eve,” was due to be published just one day after his death.
He is survived by his wife, Dame Mary Archer, their two sons and five grandchildren.
HarperCollins described Archer as a highly dedicated storyteller whose books reached readers around the world. theguardian.com
