IRGC orders tanker to turn back in Strait of Hormuz, UKMTO says

A tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was ordered by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to turn back or risk being targeted, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency.
UKMTO said the incident occurred about 11 nautical miles north of Khasab, Oman, as the tanker was making an inbound transit through the strategically important waterway.
According to the report, the vessel was hailed by the IRGC and instructed to reverse course.
The tanker’s master later confirmed that the vessel complied with the instruction and turned back.
UKMTO said authorities are investigating the incident and advised vessels operating in the area to exercise caution and report suspicious activity.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
