Alireza Sepahi Executed in Iran Hours After Marrying Fiancée by Phone From Prison

Alireza Sepahi, a 25-year-old Iranian protester, was executed Monday morning after being sentenced to death over his involvement in anti-government protests in Isfahan, according to his lawyer.
Just a day before his execution, Sepahi married his fiancée, Mahshad Kashani, in a telephone ceremony while both were imprisoned. The couple had been engaged before their arrests. Kashani, 22, remains in prison and has been sentenced to five years.
Sepahi was arrested in January in connection with the so-called Alikhani Square case. Human-rights groups had raised concerns over alleged torture, coerced confessions and due-process violations in the proceedings against him.
