State of emergency declared in 41 Tatarstan districts after frosts damage crops
A state of emergency has been declared in 41 of Tatarstan’s 43 municipal districts after freezing temperatures and other adverse weather conditions caused significant damage to agricultural crops.
Regional leader Rustam Minnikhanov signed the order on October 1, establishing a regional-level emergency response. Officials said the decision was prompted by a combination of frost, excessive soil moisture and other damaging weather conditions that resulted in crop losses.
Agricultural authorities and affected municipalities have been ordered to prepare measures within five days to address the consequences and reduce risks to food security.
Forecasters are also expecting further cold weather, with snow and overnight temperatures falling to around -2°C to -3°C in parts of the region.
