NWS issues urgent

Storms have rolled in across Texas this week, and more heavy rain could make the weekend hazardous in parts of the state.

Official response and confirmed impact

Forecast models show three to six inches of rain could fall from the Austin-San Antonio area into South Texas through early Friday, with some high-end scenarios showing isolated totals above 10 inches.

"Life-threatening and high-end flash flooding impacts are possible where the higher end rainfall totals occur, particularly if it falls over an urban region where water runoff is enhanced," according to the Weather Prediction Center Excessive Rainfall Outlook.

Here's what to expect moving into the weekend: Friday Much of South Central Texas is under a Flood Watch until 7 p.m. on Friday, with meteorologists warning life-threatening flooding could be possible.

Additional rainfall amounts between one and three inches are expected, with isolated totals around six to eight inches possible, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Austin-San Antonio office.

Forecasters warn rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas could flood quickly.

"Rain chances will continue Friday and Friday night, but the airmass will be drier," Austin forecasters wrote in their outlook.

"Rainfall totals will be moderate and the flood threat will be diminished." Portions of North Texas are also under a Flood Watch through 7 a.m.
