ODOT warns drivers of post-flash flood warning risks on I-35

Flash Flood Warning

“We did have our I-35 maintenance crews out there, just watching the ponding, making sure it wasn’t getting excessive,” Gerlach said.

Gerlach says flash flood warnings historically have raised ODOT’s concern for the interstate, particularly near the Red River.

“It’s been in drought conditions for a long time, the ground can’t hold as much water, so it creates those flash flooding possibilities,” Gerlach said.

“The number one threat, obviously, is going to be hydroplaning,” Gerlach said. Driving through water causes tires to lose traction, and drivers to lose control, according to ODOT.
