DFW Airport hit with major delays and cancellations as storms soak North Texas

DFW Airport hit

North Texas airports reported cancellations and delays Thursday morning as a storm off the Pacific Ocean brought heavy rain and potential flash flooding to the region.

Official response and confirmed impact

The majority of the canceled flights came from Envoy Air and PSA Airlines, which are both owned by American Airlines and operate regional flights for the Fort Worth carrier.

American had only canceled 27 of its mainline flights by 6:45 a.m. DFW Airport was also approaching nearly 200 delays.

Operations at Dallas Love Field, the home base of Southwest Airlines, seemed to be less affected in the early morning.

By 7 a.m., Love Field had just 15 cancellations and 12 delays, according to FlightAware.

The Federal Aviation Administration is already warning that flight traffic into DFW Airport could be slowed for much of the day.

A ground delay, meaning arrivals to the airport are delayed, is in effect until 9:59 p.m., with an average delay time of 78 minutes, according to the agency's latest update.

Incident background

DFW International Airport, the central hub of American Airlines, had more than 150 cancellations by 7 a.m., according to flight tracking site FlightAware.
