Juvenile charged after threat against Rocky Mount elementary school
A juvenile was charged Wednesday after authorities investigated a social media threat involving Benvenue Elementary School in Rocky Mount.

Authorities said there is no information indicating an ongoing threat to Benvenue Elementary School or other Nash County Public Schools.
Charges and court proceedings
The FBI received a tip shortly after midnight September 30 about a social media post threatening mass violence at the school, according to the Rocky Mount Police Department.
The FBI, Rocky Mount Police Department and Nash County Public Schools worked overnight to investigate. Authorities determined the threat originated locally.
Around 5 a.m., an FBI agent and Rocky Mount police investigator interviewed and charged a juvenile who is a student at Benvenue Elementary School, police said.
Authorities did not release the student’s identity, citing state law. Police said officers had an increased presence at the school Wednesday as a precaution.
