3-hour power outage planned Thursday morning in part of Savannah

Savannah residents and commuters along 37th Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard can expect some power disruptions Thursday.

Georgia Power Company crews will be removing tree limbs that have been impacting overhead power lines and causing service disruptions near West 38th Street, according to a Georgia Power Press release.

The maintenance work will result in a scheduled outage from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Oct.

1 to allow for safe removal of the limbs.

"This maintenance work requires the regular pruning of trees and limbs. Vegetation management is crucial to limiting outages and quickly restoring service when they occur."

The outages will impact customers and traffic lights where 37th Street intersects with MLK Jr. Boulevard, Montgomery Street and Barnard Street, the press release said.

Local police officers will be conducting traffic control at the intersections, and Georgia Power is encouraging drivers to exercise caution in the area or seek alternative routes, according to the press release.

"As part of the regular maintenance work of our electric grid system, Georgia Power maintains and protects vegetation in the right-of-way both under and over-head power lines," the press release said.
