Hurricane Polo remnants flood Marana, shut down part of Sandario Road

Hurricane Polo remnants

– A powerful storm system flooded several streets and left at least one motorist stranded in Marana.

Warning areas and potential impact

The remnants of Hurricane Polo brought heavy rain to the region, forcing officials to shut down six roadways.

Rushing floodwaters hammered Sandario Road near the airport, closing the stretch between Avra Valley Road and Twin Peaks Road.

A truck and its passengers waited for a tow truck for well over an hour just past the rushing waters on Sandario.

Jackie Ellis, a local resident who was detoured by the closure, noted that the flooding has become increasingly severe over the years.

"The impact of the rain and the flooding has just been, it seems like every year it just gets worse and worse," Ellis said.

Ellis, who grew up in the area, said flooding along Sandario Road was not always this common.

Her son described hearing the intensity of the storm from inside his school.”
