BMX Canada national championships return to Chilliwack Heritage Park

More than 700 BMX riders will be in Chilliwack competing at a national event on Thanksgiving weekend.

BMX Canada is once again bringing the Canadian Grand National Championships to Chilliwack Heritage Park Oct. 9-11.

That weekend, competitors will chase seven national championship titles and dozens of national age group crowns, as they go head-to-head on an indoor dirt track.

BMX stands for bicycle motocross, and riders use single-gear bikes, yet there will be competitors as young as two years old on balance bikes with no pedals.

The championship divisions span a wide range of ages and skill levels.

At the top of the field is superclass — the premier category, featuring prize money for the top men’s and women’s finishers.

“The race format features more than 130 motos (groups), with riders competing in heats of up to eight, based on age and ability,” according to BMX Canada.
