Drone Operator Charged Over Alleged Murder Conspiracy in Sydney, Police Say

Australian police have charged an 18-year-old man accused of operating a drone to conduct surveillance as part of an alleged conspiracy to murder a man in Sydney’s southwest.

New South Wales Police announced the charge early Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation by Taskforce Falcon into organized criminal activity.

Police Allege Drone Was Used for Surveillance

Detectives allege the 18-year-old used a drone to monitor a target in connection with a planned murder.

He was arrested in Silverwater at about 8:50 a.m. Monday and later charged with conspiracy to murder, participating in a criminal group, possessing equipment intended for serious criminal activity, and failing to operate an unmanned aircraft within visual line of sight.

Several People Already Charged

The investigation began after two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested in West Hoxton earlier this month.

A 28-year-old woman has also been charged in connection with the alleged plot and remains before the courts.

The latest suspect was remanded in custody and was due to appear in court Tuesday.

Investigation Continues

Police said Strike Force Naleto remains active as detectives continue investigating the alleged murder conspiracy and possible links to organized crime.

No victim has been publicly identified in the police statement.
