Person shows weapon during argument, prompts Marquette University safety alert

Police responded to the area near 16th and Wells Monday night. Marquette University officials said a weapon scare prompted a campus safety alert Monday night.

Official response and confirmed impact

Marquette Police posted a message on social media just before 6:30 about an armed person near 16th and Wells.

The department's social media pages gave the all clear about a half hour later saying the area was clear and there was "no ongoing threat to campus."

In a message to 12, a university spokesperson said, "Following a verbal altercation with two victims, a suspect produced a weapon and continued the argument.

The suspect then fled the area and is no longer in the MUPD patrol zone."

It's not clear if any arrests have been made in the case.
