Alabama fire officials warn of elevated wildfire risk amid dry conditions — Here, Alabama

Dry weather and ongoing drought conditions across Alabama are increasing the risk for wildfires, according to fire officials.

Tyler Givens, manager of the Pinhoti Work Unit with the Alabama Forestry Commission, said the sunny and warm weather without rain could lead to wildfires.

“Here in Alabama, this is just the beginning of our fall fire season, from September into October, on through November. Hopefully, we get some wetter weather,” Givens said.

Givens told many of the wildfires his agency responds to are caused by homeowners burning dry leaves and debris outside because of favorable weather.
