UPDATE: RAF Fairford Farmer Says She Saw 8–10 Men Before Five Arrests

The farmer who alerted police to suspicious activity near RAF Fairford says she saw between eight and 10 men, as investigators continue questioning five suspects arrested near the Gloucestershire airbase.

Speaking to LBC, the Whelford resident said the encounter was brief but she believed the group was larger than the number subsequently detained. She also said authorities had not contacted her to take a follow-up account at the time of her interview.

Her estimate has not been confirmed by investigators and does not establish that additional suspects remain at large. Police have said they believe the incident is contained.

Farmer Describes Encounter Near RAF Fairford

The woman, who has asked to remain anonymous, said she encountered three white vans blocking a road and access to her farm in the early hours of Sunday, September 27.

After turning her vehicle around, she saw men wearing dark clothing, several with their faces covered. She said members of the group began running after appearing in her headlights.

She called 999 and warned neighbours through a village WhatsApp group.

According to comments reported by The Sun, she questioned why police had not subsequently called her back despite having her contact details.

Five British Men Remain in Custody

Counter Terrorism Policing said the five detained men are British nationals aged 23 to 25 who live in London.

They were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act and preparation of a terrorist act. Police said on Monday that their detention had been extended and that examination of the scene had produced further lines of inquiry.

The operation prompted the evacuation of around 85 households while Army bomb disposal specialists examined vehicles. Investigators are continuing to establish the suspects’ activities and any motive behind the incident.
