Maple Ridge man sentenced to three years in prison for producing MDMA

A man who produced and trafficked large amounts of the street drug MDMA in Maple Ridge has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Christopher James Alves, 42, was sentenced on Sept.

They also found enough precursor chemicals and other substances to produce an additional 34 kg, along with an extensive amount of equipment for the production.

In sentencing, Justice Terence Schultes accepted mitigating factors including that Alves had no prior criminal record, and that his wife of 12 years remains supportive of him.

Charges and court proceedings

18 in New Westminster Supreme Court after pleading guilty to three charges: Producing MDMA, possessing it for the purposes of trafficking, and possessing substances for the purposed of producing a controlled substance.

His offences were committed in 2022, at a rural property in Maple Ridge, where police found 49 kilograms of finished MDMA, with a street value of approximately $392,000, the court heard.

Police said Alves’ DNA was identified on one of several full-face respirators at the site, his fingerprint was found on a glass flask, and he was observed by police at the site during deliveries of equipment.

He was at the site when police made their bust.
