Earthquake Off Hermosa Beach Felt in LA Area

The Los Angeles area was rattled by a shallow earthquake off the coast of Hermosa Beach Sunday morning, but no damage was reported.

The temblor occurred at 8:40 a.m. Sunday about four miles southwest of Hermosa Beach.

It had a preliminary magnitude of 3.6 and a depth of 11 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Shaking could be felt in the west Los Angeles County area. “We felt it.

But it wasn’t that big of a deal,” a Hermosa Beach Police Department dispatcher told City News Service.

The department did not receive any service calls from the earthquake, the dispatcher added.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Hermosa Beach station also reported no service calls related to the quake.

The Torrance police and fire departments reported that they conducted window surveys of city infrastructure and critical facilities and no damage to critical infrastructure has been identified.
